za togo chto

hi everyone:)

not really a phrase, more like a grammar rule, I think.
I really have no idea where to use this : "za togo chto".

can someone give me some sentences where this is used so that I finally get the meaning of it ?

There is no such phrase in Russian. I think the phrase «из-за того, что» is what you need. This is very close to such words as "because", "by reason of", etc. A sentence with it is constructed by the scheme: «Из-за того, что <a reason>, <a consequence>».

1) Из-за того, что ты не заехал за мной, я опоздала на самолёт.
2) Из-за того, что там было очень жарко, отдохнуть нормально не удалось.
3) Из-за того, что поезд опоздал, я не приехал на репетицию.

Also you can use «из-за того, что» like "because" in according with the scheme: <a consequence> из-за того, что <a reason>. The previous sentences will look so:

1) Я опоздала на самолёт из-за того, что ты не заехал за мной.
2) Отдохнуть нормально не удалось из-за того, что там было жарко.
3) Я не приехал на репетицию из-за того, что поезд опоздал.

Oh, this can be another phrase: «за того, кто». It’s used in according with the template <Do smth> за того, кто <a description>.

In this construction «за» shows: smb do smth instead «того, кто...»
1) Я мщу за того, кто несправедливо обвинён вами!
2) Я заплачу за того, кто выпьет пива больше, чем этот здоровяк!

It's used also in toasts.
1) Выпьем за того, кто в море!
2) (plural form) Тост: Поднимем бокалы за тех, кто далеко.

I think the phrase should be "За то, что..." or "Из-за то, что..."

I find I quite easy replace "из-за того, что" with "потому что".

could you also give me examples of sentences using "За то, что" please ?:)

In English you can put a verb as the object of a preposition (the verb takes the -ing form):

For example "Thank you for doing that." In Russian this is not possible: "спасибо тебе за сделать это" is not grammatically correct.

In such cases, Russians use this construction:

prepostion + то (in the correct case) + что, (как, кто, or чтобы can also appear) + a new clause

"спасибо тебе за то, что ты сделал это"

Also in English, constructions like "thanks for what you did" are possible, which are not possible in Russian ("спасибо за что сделал" makes no sense in Russian). The construction with то is used in such cases as well. You probably already know a lot of phrases like this, for example потому, что/ после того, как/ перед тем, как...

There are many, many more examples of this construction with all of the prepositions. It's one of the main constructions in Russian but for some reason most text books don't really cover it.
