    Year

When reading a year in a news article, how is it read? For example, in English "in 1997" would be read "in nineteen ninety five", and not "in one thousand nine hundered and ninety five". How would that be read in Russian?

Or more direct, how would you say it in the context of this sentance?
Бывший президент Ирака Саддам Хусейн ещё в 1995 году говорил о том, что США могут подвергнуться атаке террористов.

Alright, thanks! In English sometimes the 19 part in years is left out. Can you do this in Russian?

Sure you can when it's obvious what century you are talking about.
Ex. Я закончил школу в 95-м году. (...девяносто пятом...)
You can even omit the word "год"
Мой дедушка в 43-м пошел добровольцем на фронт. (...сорок третьем...)
