Whats the difference between учитель and преподаватель?

Just came across two words meaning teacher. Is there any difference between the two or does it matter which one you say? Thanks....

If it is a private tutor, then use
I'm studying English, and that's why I make a lot of mistakes. But I do not ask you to correct them, you may just stick my nose into them or more exactly stick them into my eyes.
