    Uses of ухо , уши

I am doing an excercise about uses of ухо , уши (фразеологические обороты). An I find a phrase where nor I understand the original nor the explanation. It is:
не видать как своих ушей (кого, чего) that means: никогда не получить кого-либо, чего-либо.
видать I see in my dictionary as a conversational form of видeть, apart from some other meaning that I think does't fit hear.

Can you make it clear for me? Thanks

не видать как своих ушей = (literally) You won't see (it) the same as (you won't see) your own ears

I.e. there's no chance for you to have it (to get/to do/to achieve smth.), the same as there's no chance for you to see your own ears (without mirror, that is )

    Eg.:
Не видать тебе победы, как своих ушей = there's no way you can win
