Use of an infinitive

I have a problem and I don't know if it is only matter of usual hyperbaton in poems or it is a regular use of infinitive that I don't know. It is like this:
Лебедь, Щука и Рак

Однажды Лебедь, Рак да Щука
Везти с поклажей воз взялись
И вместе трое все в неговпряглись.

However the general meaning of the 2nd verse is clear I don't understand why the infinitive Везти = carry. So please translate the 2nd verse as well as explain to me why Везти is in infinitive, unless the normal order, whithout hyperbaton, would be: They took a charriot to carry (with) the luggage?

Везти с поклажей воз взялись = Undertook carrying a cart with luggage

The usual word order would be:

Взялись везти воз с поклажей.

look up the translation of взяться. It means something like "up and DO SMTH", START, SET ABOUT smth.
