Thread: SUV in Russian?

How would you translate SUV (sports utility vehicle) in Russian? Is there a similar acronym in Russian you would use?

Внедорожник.
The word derived from words "дорога" (road), "дорожный" and prefix "вне" (out, outside, over), because it can be driven even in bad conditions of roads.

Внедорожник means off-road vehicle but may include SUV. There seems to be no SUV-specific term in Russian.

Since SUV does belong to off-road class of vehicle but the SUV car's body resembles the off-road car's body Russians use the term "паркетник" which means the car for parquet floor only (not for off-road). Also we use the term "кроссовер" ("crossover").
