Thread: Why is тысяча in accusative case here?

Hello,

1- In the following sentence why the number тысяча is in accusative case?

Он это говорил тысячу раз.

2- If it is 2 times then the sentence will be like:

Он это говорил два раза

or

Он это говорил две раза

This construction is always in accusative regardless of the numeral. Dunno why.

Два раза, because раз is masculine.

«Тысяча», as well as «сотня», «дюжина» (not very Russian), «пара» and, probably, some other quantity words, become a part of an adverb (= adverbial modifier of frequency in a sentence), and should be memorized as one adverb or as a SET EXPRESSION, e.g. тысячу раз, сотню раз, пару раз, дюжину раз. But only when this collocation equals to an adverb!
