Thread: Marketable in Russian

I assume the proper translation for that word is "рыночный". But I also saw the word "ходкий" which sounds weird to me... anyway the phrase I'm trying to translate is:

"In order to become marketable in this industry, we must manufacture bigger machines."

Which word would you use for "marketable"?

Из того что Лингво предлагает, мне больше всего понравилось "пользоваться спросом".

Например:
"Нам следует выпускать большие машины, на них сейчас большой спрос"

Ходкий хорош для мелкой розницы. Если мой товар нарасхват, товар расходится как горячие пирожки, торговля идёт бойко - то этот товар ходкий.

I think that the English sentence suffers and the appropriate word is competitive rather than marketable.
This company already functions which means that is already marketable (which is not translated as рыночный).
For competitive the translation is конкурентоспособный but I don't know whether it applies to factories (except from prices)

As native speaker I never heard "ходкий" in my life. Maybe it's regional or dying form of word. Its structure is absolutely correct, but I didn't heard it. (compare google count results "ходкий" vs "ходовой"). "Ходовой" is common word. Meaning is "(product) which has big volume of sales". It's not applicable to production process or organization.
As for the phrase it can be rearranged in many ways to become something you can read in documents, press-releases, etc.
"Чтобы выйти на рынок мы должны..." (in case of entering market)
"Чтобы остаться на рынке мы должны..." (in case of presence on market)
Mentioned above:
"Чтобы быть/стать/оставаться конкурентноспособными..." (yes, "конкурентноспособный" is applicable to any of: prices, production, product process or factory/organization)
"Чтобы наша продукция пользовалась спросом..."

Интересно. Для меня ходкий - обычное слово, когда говорили о популярном товаре.
Ходовой же ассоциируется скорее со словом аппарат. .

Ну вот даже если в гугле в кавычках (строгое совпадение) набирать словосочетания "ходкий/ходовой товар", то результататов будет 9,5 тысяч против 84 тысяч.
Т.е. даже применительно к товару намного реже "ходкий" используется. Поребрик не поребрик, не знаю, но факт налицо.

Hmm, as for me - ходкий товар doesn't sound okay as well. If I were to say that I'd use ходовой товар.

I disagree, "competitive" or "marketable" can be used in the sentence. A company can add a different aspect of it's core business and need to be marketable or competitive in it.
