Correct me if I'm wrong. Because I'm going to apply all this concept to other nouns as many as I can.

When should I use "мой" and when should I use "свой" when i want to say my?

Use СВОЙ when the pronoun refers to the same person expressed by the verb in the same clause.

Дима люблит свою жену. К сожалению, его друг Коля тоже любит его жену. (То есть, жену Димы.)

Right -- настоящий means "the present" as contrasted with "the past" and "the future" (like when you're talking about verb tenses). But подарок is "a present" in the sense of "a gift" (as in, "We gave him a shirt as a birthday gift").

I guess it would be better to say that "настоящий" is an adjective (masculine) and "подарок" is a noun (masculine too).

Also "настоящий" could mean "real", "authentic", "genuine"
