why do i always hear people saying "ia poimu, ty poimesh'..." when they clearly don't use a future tense.

i learned that "ia poimu" mean "i will understand" and not "i understand". so what is wrong with what i learned?

When people say ya poimu - they clearly using the future tense and definetely saying about future understanding.
