How the years are said in Russians (1985, 2006 etc)

Does Russian use "nineteen eighty five"for the years, like in English, or does Russian simply say "one thousand ninehundred and five"?

If you know, would you be able to give an example for 2005 and 1995?

I am trying to master ALL ways of saying large numbers in Russian. This has tripped me up in other languages even English when I first learnt it. This time I will get the numbers out of the way, straight away!

    Hope you can help!

Yes, that's how we say it. Or, in Russian, "тысяча девятьсот девяносто пятый (год)"

2005 - две тысячи пятый (год). 1995 - see above

This is a necessary way to say the year and any number describing quantity/measure/running number. But, for example, the phone number (which is a sequence of digits rather than measure) can be said in arbitrary way:

    87456653
eighty seven - forty five - sixty six - fifty three or
    eight - seven - four - ... or
eight hundred seventy four - five - sixty six - five - three

    or any way one likes.
"Россия для русских" - это неправильно. Остальные-то чем лучше?

A phone number isn't really a number, but rather a code. So different rules apply to telephone numbers (no rules would be a closer term).

    Thanks everyone!
At least ONE thing that's uncomplicated about Russian numbers!
