How to say "honk" as in car horn?

How do you say something like "the people in the car honked their horn"?

"Car horn" is "клаксон" or "гудок".
"To honk" is "сигналить" or "гудеть".
Also, children teaching includes "cats say 'мяу' (meow), cows say 'му' (moo), .... cars say 'би би' (bee bee)" (it really sounds as english word 'bee'). It is rarely used by adults, but 'бибикать' is something like children word for 'to honk car horn'.
By the way, foxes say 'тяф тяф'.

Thanks Alex. I was going with сигналить but my dictionary gave me "signal" for that which I interpreted as in signal left or right. (Indicate). I think I've seen бибика - which I guess may mean 'horn' - in children speak?

Left or right lamp int the car is 'поворотник'. One can say 'посигналил поворотником' or 'поморгал поворотником'.

'I think I've seen бибика - which I guess may mean 'horn' - in children speak?'

    No, it's for car itself.

As noted, бибика is a car in child's language. However, бибикалка would work for a car horn.
I do not claim that my opinion is absolutely true.
If you've spotted any mistake in my English, please, correct it. I want to be aware of any mistakes to efficiently eliminate them before they become a habit.
