No-no. Wait. "не дождаясь" is not a Russian word. "не дожидаясь" (without waiting) does exist.

However, even if you put "не дожидаясь", the sentence still does not make any sense to me: "Мы прожили там, не дожидаясь, три года". Because "дожидаясь" requires an object: "to wait for WHAT?".

I'm afraid it's something different there than what you think...
