HELP What is the Russian for this Can not find it

Hello can you help me I am trying to look for the Russian written words or letter that sounds like "aw" as in the word "awe" or "paw" but I cannot find in the Russian alphabet a letter that describes this sound is there no letter "w" in the Russian language?

the reason for my asking is I am trying to translate my surname into Russian using the Russian alphabet but cannot find the letters to fit my name

my surname is Kershaw and sounds like ker as in "her" but with a strong "K" - "sh" as in "show" and "aw" as in "awe" or "paw"

    Ker-sh-aw

would this be along the right route. кэрщ

If I translate right then this Кершо или Кершоу would be the sound K "e " as in "yet" - "р" as in "roll" - щ "sh" as in "sheep" but the "o" sounds like the one in "folk"

therfore it would sound like this in English K-er-sh-o not K - er-sh-aw

    is this correct ?

Transliteration of names often sound somewhat different... e.g. Manson=Мэнсон, не Мансон

It seems like the most popular variant of a name close to yours (George Bernard Shaw/ Джордж Бернард Шоу) is Шоу. It got about 85k hits; as opposed to only 5k for plain Шо. I'd go with the former, then with the end result being Кершоу, as was mentioned earlier.
Заранее благодарю всех за исправление ошибок в моём русском.

Blimey in other words "There is more than one way to skin a cat"

I never new a common name like mine in England could have more than one way of spelling.

Once again many thanks for your replies

Кершё and Кершo are pronounced exactly the same since Ш is always hard, therefore Ё has no palatising or jotating effect, and becomes O.

ang12el - Russian О sounds very very much like the aw in Kershaw, but without the w at the end. But is a very good aproximation. English folk is very different. Compare (English Received Pronunciation) folk with torn. They are clearly different sounds, and the second one is close to Russian O.

As for W. W is the semivowel realting to the oo sound (too, shoe, do), so in Russian they use the full vowel version У.

So your name = Кершо or Кершоу. I;d say the first sounds more like Kershaw to me.

Спасибо каждый - Thanks each - but even more gramatically incorrect then that sounds in English.

would that w be pronounced in Britain? In AmE, "aw" here is definitely a single sound, different from Russian "o" but without a closer Russian equivalent.
