    Getting started

Hello friends, (not sure if this is the right place to post this) I've started learning a little Russian just by using online translators and such, it seems very complicated and was wondering if Rosetta Stone was worth the money. On a side note, I have a rather stupid question, in the opening scene of Hunt For Red October, subtitles read that Sean Connery says "Cold and hard", the only translation I've found is "Holodnym i zhestkim", but Connery says something to the tune of "Aladreega ee sorova"(pardon phonetic spelling please) Don't ask me why, but this has been vexing me for a while. Thank you all for any help you can offer.

I don't think it is enough to get any appreciable results (unless you are native speaker of another slavic language.). As for Rosetta Stone, we had several threads here on forum, you can try to use search.

I didn't watch that film, but from your transcription I can guess that it is "Холодрыга и сурово." It is very colloquial.
"Россия для русских" - это неправильно. Остальные-то чем лучше?

    Нашла на другом форуме:
Случайный прохожий написал: Я долго не мог понять, что говорит Коннери в самом начале фильма, когда они отходят от пирса. Потом разобрал - "холодрыга". Причем так серьезно, два раза повторил...
    - Холдрыга, трищ капитан?
    -Да, хлдрыга... Холодно и сурово...
Холодрыга (noun) - an extreme cold
