Hey guys, I was taught to form the imperative with these rules:
"The imperative is formed by adding the ending -И to the basic stem. The normal truncation and alternation rules apply.
So, the imperative for the verb говорить would be говори(те)!
The textbook then says "If the и of the imperative is not stressed, it is dropped, and the preceding consonant, except й, takes on a soft sign spelling."
It then provides instructions for the verbs that end in й, but that isn't what is troubling me, so I won't bother copying the instructions on that.
My problem is that the conjugation dictionary on this website says that the imperative for the non-syllabic выз/вал verb is вызови(те)! However, this does not conform to the rules of imperative formation that I was taught. My point here is not to bring attention to a potential error on this website, but to ask for enlightenment on the issue of imperative formation. Тhe verb that I want to form into an imperative has fixed stress on the ы, making me wonder why the imperative is not вызовь, as I initially presumed. For example, the verb начнать has shifting stress, but in the first person conjugation the stress is on the у. In that scenario--at least according to the rules I was taught--the и addition is justified, but not in the case of the выз/вал, whose stress in the first person is on the ы.
Can someone provide some assistance here?
