"Finding the value of k"... how to use genitive in this case on "k" ?

Basically, in a physics book, if I want to translate the phrase "finding the value of k"

    Is it simply -

    "Находка значение к"

I would imagine that if "k" was a word it needed to be conjugated with a genitive..but since it's a letter.. I leave it as is
    ?

Yes, you are right. It should be "Определение значения (genitive) k (genitive)". Like in "Определение значения скорости" or "Определение величины сопротивления". Of course it should be just "k" as letters have no cases being not nouns.

Just "определение значения k". Or if that's like a task/order for the student, it would be "определить значение k". Sometimes it also looks like "определение значения переменной k" or "определить значение переменной k". Переменная = a variable.
