Determinate Perfectives

I think I basically understand indeterminate/determinate verbs, and imperfective/perfective. But I'm not sure I understand when it suffices to use an imperfective determinate verb of movement, and when you have to use a perfective determinate verb of movement.

For example, to say, "He went to France (and stayed there)," I assume you would use a perfective determinate. But if you wanted to say, "He is going to France (and will stay there)," you would use an imperfective determinate?

Do I have the idea right?

I think:

He went to France (and stayed): он поехал во Францию. (Perfective Determinate)

He is going to France (and will stay there): он поедет во Францию. (Perfective determinate)

He went to France (and stayed, he is not coming back)): он yехал во Францию.
He is going to France (and will stay there): он yедет во Францию.

saibot's examples are correct as well. The only thing that confuses me a bit is (and will stay there). That's probably why Milanya changed the prefixes.

Ok, so for both of those you need a perfective determinate. But when would you use an imperfective determinate?

You can say as well "он уезжает во Францию" (imperfective) I think its meaning is more close to "he is going to France" or "he is leaving for France" while "он yедет во Францию" is more close to "he will go to France"

prefixes with verbs of motion:

по- used with the determinate forms идти means to set off, to begin, or to alter direction. Он ходил по дороге, а потом побежал/пошёл налево. He was walking along the road, and then started running/turned off to the left.

по- with the indeterminate forms adds the meaning of "a little" to the verb. Он походил в саду. He walked around the garden for a while.

Milanya changed the prefix because у- adds the "movement away" part, not по-.

Он поехал во Францию. He set off for France.
Он уехал во Францию. He went away to France.
Он ездил во Францию. He went to France and back.
And then there's Он съездил во Францию. I don't know the difference this prefix makes here, or if you can say it at all. He went down to France and returned, maybe?

So now when you watch the movie Кукушка you will know what the Russian guy means when asked what his name is. He answers Пшол ты! So they call him that.

You can use both, "ездил" can mean here:
1. He's been to France
Он ездил во Францию=Он был во Франции
2. He was there more than one time
Он ездил во Францию три раза

or он съездил в магазин. It depends on context.

К сайботу пришли гости, а у него дома не было водки. Он съездил в магазин и купил 10 бутылок.

- Где он был?
- Он ездил в магазин.

What about the typo you made?

That's not a typo, that's miscalculation

There was a typo in the post. You just haven't seen the original sentence. If you look at net surfer's post once more you'll see that he edited it.
