    why isn't общественно in the genitive?

    Теперь уже Софья Петровна вполне соглашалась с Колей, когда он толковал ей о необходимости для женщин общественно полезного труда.

    It's a standart expression and "общественно" never changes here:
    общественно полезного труда
    общественно полезному труду
    общественно полезном труде
    etc.

    Maybe because it is a participle? The ending -(н)о is kinda English -ly.

    Yeah... adverb. I could not remember this word but I thought about it.
