    Which case is this?

I am working on a grammar excercise where there is an example given, the some cues to substitute to make new sentences. The example is Мы попали на собрание как раз вовремя. Is собрание in the accusative or prepositional case here?

    Thanks for your help.

    и что? собрание
    р чего? собрания
    д кому? собранию
    в что? собрание
    т чем? собранием
    п о чем? о собрании

    Стало быть винительный (accusative) падеж.

Thanks Lampada for your post, though I think if I could read Russian well enough to understand it, I wouldn't need to ask so many basic questions. Is this website for Russians to understand their own language better or for Russian children?

Russians always use these questions to determine case. I have no idea how it works, and numerous attempts at explaining it to me have failed.

Does anyone have an explanation that I might be able to understand?

    Thanks in advance.

Russians always use the correct case but they don't sometimes know how to call it. So they "ask a question" (replace the word in question with pronouns кто and что). They use the correct form of these pronouns automatically and thus determine the case. The method doesn't work for foreigners obviously.

if you understand what russian word 'Куда' means, you should not have problems with Accusative. You use accusative every time, you are going to say Куда, and know, that 'на' preposition to be used.

Acc: Мы попали (куда?) на собрание, (на бал, на корабль, ...)
Prep: Мы оказались (где?) на собрании, (на балу, на корабле)

You may also notice that endings are different.

Мда, они кажется попали (куда?) в глубокую задницу неприятности, судя по тому, что типичные падежные вопросы для них "don't make sense".
