В компании работает 10 человек ....
Читая газету, я заметил такую форму: ...10 человек работают .......
ранены 10 чл. .also...if I say около/более...is it still
работает....or работают, no matter which number/figure?
when having exact figures/numbers, it should be done like this (according to my book)

2-4 plural..
5...sg. ..as shown in the first sentence




Can somebody clear me up?

Maybe someone more educated would correct me but I think that both 10 человек работает and 10 человек работают are correct, although I think that 10 человек работают is more correct.

With numbers you can use the neuter singular form of the verb or the plural. There are certain times when one is better than the other, but they can be quite complex. Often both are possible.

человек declines irregularly.

Nominative singular = (один) человек
Genitive sinular = (два, три, четыре) человека
Genitive plural with numerals = (пять) человек [Genitive plural is the same in form as nominative].
Genitive plural without numerals (много) людей

Looks like there're no "strict" rules for that - I'll go with both the "работает 20 сотрудников / человек" and " ...ют.."

I've never faced a situation nobody told me I was wrong with that..just wanted to make sure!
