Thread: уж ?

Can anyone please explain me the usage of this word?

And me. I've seen it used a bit, but I'm not sure on it's exact usage.

Well

1) One meaning is "grass-snake"

2) It can also be a shortened form of уже

3) sure; really

~уж он умрёт, если его обезглавят. - He is sure to die if he is decapitated.

~это уж очень дорого. - This is really too expensive.

You say you're not a noob yet you dont even give the correct difinition for a simple word.

Look in any dictionary and Already will be the first word you see for, Уже but ur too noob u didnt even put that at all. Oh yea, and your story was f*cking retarded too.

For really u could just say слишком or even же, but wtf... U really did teach urself russian didnt u. Russian for n00bz.

Why wouldn't he use those? Plus, I didn't write those. The people that wrote the dictionary did. And also, the point is not the sentence. The point is to show them HOW to use the word, so they can make sentences of their own.

If they piss you off so much, then why don't you give him some good ones?

Firstly: thank you guys for helping me. I’ve been through a bad time trying to make myself comfortable with the use of У in sentences where it means possession and also the use of уж.

Now, even in my craziest though I couldn’t imagine a flame war in a Russian language forum. Jesus, people fights for any reason

I'm glad you found it helpful. Because I did such a BAD job of explaining it, and my examples were soooooo horrible.
