    Why not? I think it's a proper translation. What's wrong with it?

    For example, you run into an old friend of yours who lives in a foreign country and you ask him/her: Как тебя туда (или сюда) угораздило? What on earth made you stay/come over there?

    From my dictionary:

    verb "угораздить" -- to urge, induce

    but in normal speach it have strong negative connotations (to urge to do something very wrong)

    Although gramota.ru (the only dictionary I can access from work) gives 2 meanings for the word "УГОРАЗДИТЬ", I personally have never heard it being used in the sense to urge (meaning 1.), the second meaning is very common.


    УГОРАЗДИТЬ сов. перех.
    1. безл. разг. Побудить кого-л. сделать, устроить что-л. (обычно ненужное, нелепое, в ущерб себе).
    2. безл. разг.-сниж. Попасть, угодить куда-л., во что-л. (обычно неприятное).
