    счас

I sometimes hear Russians say something that sounds like "счас", can't find it in the dictionary.
From the context I assume it means something like "wait" or "just a moment"...?

    Thanks

Yes, счас is mangled сейчас, which is often used in phrases with meaning 'be in a hurry':

    - Иван, тебе пора выходить, а то опоздаешь на автобус!
    - Сейчас, уже иду!

    - Милый, ты должен купить мне новую машину! Старая мне надоела!
    - Ага, сейчас, разбежался!
(ironic, he says that he will buy a car in a moment, but in fact is not going to buy it at all)

What do you mean? It can't sound like that anyway. "c" will at least turn into щ, or both сч will turn into щ, what really happens. Сейчас can be pronounced сичас in careful speech, but usually it is pronounced щас.
