Thread: Самый Лучше

This was given as an answer in my book for the superlative of хороший. Is this correct, and if it is, are there any more of this type?

you can say наилучший too

наибольший - the biggest
наименьший - the smallest
наивысший - the tallest
наихудший - the worst

You can also say Самый лучший - the very best.

the наи prefix, as far as i remember, is more formal and typical of newspaper style

I was just surprised by your question because your teacher should have gone over that??

I was just struck by the superlative being formed by the Самый + the comparitive form, rather than Самый + the adjective form. I was wondering if if was unique to хороший, or if a broader generalization could be made.

You can use Самый with any adjective to form the superlative.
There are other ways, but this is the easiest.

самый лучше is not grammatical.
