Thread: Просыпать / Рассыпать

Какая разница между "просыпать" и "рассыпать"?

В словаре оба переведены как "to spill". Кажется, что они равнозначные, но может есть нюанс.

Просыпать is kinda to miss the plate or something else when you are moving small parts from the can.
Сыпать мимо чего-то. (Мимо тарелки)

Рассыпать is spread something over the territory.
Рассыпаешь по чему-то, распространяешь по площади. (По полу)

So if you (просыпать) something in result it (рассыпаться) over something.

So complete result is the same.
Ты просыпаешь что-то и в результате оно рассыпается по чему-то.

In fact if you рассыпаешь something it means you are spreading it at the same level all over the territory.

additionally:

prefix про- is something like "through"
prefix рас- is something like "around"

It is about the most important result. What do you think was the most important result of the action? That now you have not enough sand (or whatever) for your task (про-) or that spilled around sand causes troubles (рас-).

Мне кажется, разницу можно объяснить так:

просыпать - spill in disorderly fashion.. as a rule accidentally... For example, Он случайно просыпал муку на пол.

рассыпать - scatter, and often on purpose to scatter things. For example, Он рассыпал корм, чтобы накормить кур.

Конечно, контекст очень важен. Слова очень похожи по значению.

Also these words cant' be used with liquids.

Теперь понятно... "просыпать" мне кажется нечаянный случай.
