Thread: при- (unfinished action)

Пожалуйста исправтье мне если я ошибаюсь:
The word: при- infront of a verb in some cases means that the action was not completed. Correct?
Are there any examples of verbs?

Actually it's the other way around -- при- very often means a finished action, so that it has even become one of the ways to make a perfective version for verbs that otherwise don't have a perfective complement, like caress=ласкать (imperfective) - приласкать (perfective), грозить - пригрозить, etc.

The other meaning of "при" is приближение -- approaching, motion toward somewhere as opposed to undirectional motion:

ходить (walk, go, no direction) - приходить (come somewhere)
лететь (fly) - прилететь (arrive by air, fly in)
almost any verb of motion

пригласить (somewhere) = invite (basically it comes from outdated "гласить", which means "to say" or "to voice" and was used to describe something that was done by toun criers/heralds ("глашатай") -- they basically voiced out something. But when added the "при" we have a "voiced out direction toward my house where you are welcome/invited")

привлекать (1: attract; 2:use somebody's help, maybe some kind of means to do something, like привлекать тяжёлую технику, привлекать армию/флот/своего лучшего друга к решению какой-то задачи)
attraction needs an object of it doesn't it?

тащить (drag with no certain direction if not specified explicitly) - притащить (drag something somewhere as a complete or incomplete action)
- Ты зачем притащил ужа в квартиру? (same as bring/drag) -- completed/perfective
- Если ещё раз принесёшь из школы двойку в дневнике - денег на шоколадку не получишь. (bring) -- completed/perfective
- Я жду когда ты будешь приносить зарплату регулярно, а не "сегодня половину, а завтра - остальное". (bring) -- incompleted/periodic in the future/imperfective

And many others...

Yes, the prefix при- sometimes means that the action wasn't completed:

приоткрывать-приоткрыть дверь: half-open the door;
приотворять-приотворить калитку: half-open the gate;
приостанавливать-приостановить: to stop for for a while.

Agree with RussianTeacher (maybe except for the last word because "корнуть" isn't a word by itself and I wouldn't say that "take a NORMAL/GOOD/HEFTY" nap would use other verb than the mentioned one). So the latter would be the same regardless of the "size" of a nap.
