Передача начинается без четверти девять (What is передача?)

This sentence is given as an example...
But I don't understand what передача means. It wasn't clear from the dictionary definition. Is it a TV programme or a live performance.... ?

    A TV or radio programme.
What is "live performance"? It wasn't clear from the dictionary definition.
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

передача is something broadcasted, no matter what.
"Россия для русских" - это неправильно. Остальные-то чем лучше?

I wouldn't say about a film or a theatrical performance that will be broadcasted "передача начинается..."

Похоже, что выступление в прямом эфире (если речь идет о трансляции по ТВ).

Тем не менее в "программе передач" они будут присутствовать.

Hmm... OK. Looks like there are several confusing meanings of this word.

    1)Transmittance, broadcasting.
2)Item in the TV or Radio time schedule.
    3)TV or Radio show.

Ok, I get it - Thanks!
Seems like it's a "broad" word that includes many different things.

LIVE show / Live Performance. (This is a very good expression to know!!!)

In THIS context, Live is pronounced "лайв" not "лив" (typical English!)
It is used for when a band or an artist performs and they are actually playing... For example if you are at a concert or in a pub / bar where a band is playing.

The opposite to Live is playback, recording or lip-synching...

According to the text at the bottom of the record cover, this was recorded at a concert, not in a studio,

Is she really singing live or just lip-synching an existing recording?

    Live performance at a pub

Yes, the verb is pronounced [lɪv] and the adjective is pronounced [laɪv].
For typing English transcription, I would recommend this site :
