Thread: Он у себя в комнате.

I've seen this phrasing a few times now. Only when talking about being in a room. For some reason "He's in his room right now." is translated "Он сейчас у себя в комнате.". Why is it phrased "at himself in room"? Is there a rule against showing possession of a location?

"У себя" значит, что человек находится в свой комнате/в своей квартире/в своём кабинете. Whatever it is, he is in his own place.

This sounds to me in line with
"мы в доме Ивановых" -> "мы дома у Ивановых"
"мы в своём доме" -> "мы дома у себя"
