Всем привет!
I just learned (heh) the verb изучать, but formerly I was only aware of учиться — I realize that учиться is passive and means more litterally "to be taught" (perhaps also "to teach oneself" ?). The из- prepositional prefix interests me. Latin uses the exact same one in synonyms for the verb "to learn" :
discere : to learn
ēdiscere : to learn (thoroughly) [the preposition ē or sometimes ex has been added to intensify the verb, and ex/ē means "out of," just as из.]
Does из have a similar function in the verb изучать as ex does in ēdiscere?
