Just a couple of usage questions. I am an American man, and I have a Russian friend who is a female. We are both married to other people, so she's just a friend. If I introduce her to other Russian people, do I refer to her as мой друг? If I refer to her as моя подруга, would that send the wrong message?
I guess my question is really this: can women be друзья to men? If a man has a подругу, does that automatically connote a deeper and/or more romantic relationship?
And the corollary: if two women are подруги to each other, then they're just friends, right? Would a woman refer to another woman as a друг (assuming it's just a friendly relationship)?
