    Семья

I understand the simple terms for the family, but when it becomes more complicated, meaning not like English any more, I become confused.
Please help me with these terms.

    How do you say:
    Step-brother
    Step-sister
    Half-brother
    Half-sister
    Son-in-law
    Daughter-in-law

Please make sure I've understood this correctly.
I read that these terms change with relation...

    Тесть - wife's father
    Свёкор - husband's father
    Тёща - wife's mother
    Свекровь - husband's mother

These terms confused me the most!!!
I found translations for them, but there were three different relations to them I became confused. Can someone simply write out the many translations for these and explain their meanings?

    Brother-in-law
    Sister-in-law

    Thanks everyone!!!

    Re: Семья

    Step-brother - сводный брат
    Step-sister - сводная сестра
    Son-in-law - зять
    Daughter-in-law сноха
    Half-brother - единокровный брат
Half-sister - единокровная сестра - but we usually dont say this way. It's better to say брат/сестра по отцу/матери.
Please make sure I've understood this correctly.
I read that these terms change with relation...

    Тесть - wife's father
    Свёкор - husband's father
    Тёща - wife's mother
    Свекровь - husband's mother
    OK

These terms confused me the most!!!
    Brother-in-law
    - a brother of a wife to a husband- шурин
    - a brother of a husband to a wife - деверь
    - a husband of a wife's sister to a husband of another sister- свояк
    - a husband of a sister - зять
    Sister-in-law
    - a sister of a wife to a husband своячница
    - a brother's wife - невестка
    - a husband's sister - золовка

Do not be confused, you shouldn't learn them all. The most frequently used terms are тёща, тесть свёкор, свекровь, about the others... well you can use them or not. Just say брат жены instead of шурин, муж сестры жены instead of свояк or жена брата instead of невестка and everybody can get it.

    Thank you both!!!

I still have a couple of questions with these words...

You've said that son-in-law is зять and brother-in-law is also зять. Will that not be confusing, if one says those words?

Also please check to make sure I've understood everything...

    Шурин - брат жены
    Деверь - брат мужа
    Свояк - муж своячницы?
    Зять - муж сестры

    Своячница - сестра жены
    Золовка - сестра мужа
    Невестка - жена брата

    Thank you so much!!!

Зять is a husband of a daughter or a husband of a sister. I said before just use муж дочери or муж сестры. If one says just this word only you will be confused but I think you won't during a conversation.
    Шурин - брат жены
    Деверь - брат мужа
    Свояк - муж своячницы
    Зять - муж сестры

    Своячница - сестра жены
    Золовка - сестра мужа
    Невестка - жена брата
    It seems to me OK.

Just to confuse you even more:
Half-brother, half-sister could be not only единокровный брат, единокровная сестра (in case they have the same father), but also единоутробный брат, единоутробная сестра (in case they have the same mother)
So, it's better to say брат (сестра) по отцу/матери as it was said by JJ already.
