How do you say in Russian
The pen is mightier than the sword.
Ручка более могущественной чем меч.
This means that you can make more things happen by words, than by physical force.

Какая разница, умереть богатым или бедным?
Какой толк от богатства если ты не счастлив.

Перо is poetic for "pen" Goose feathers were used for writing.
Сильнее vs могущественнее: you can use могущественнее too, but Russian сила is not equivalent to English "strength", it has a wider meaning.
I believe at the time of this saying a pen was made from the quill of a feather.
Actually I was wondereing if in, " Ручка более могущественной чем меч." That it should have been, "могущественная" in order to be grammatically correct. Any thoughts on that????

Или просто:

Перо сильнее меча is much more expressive. In this case Перо means a quill pen.
(When people fought with swords they wrote with quills.)
If you insist on using aвторучка then substitute пулемет for меч.
А злые языки страшнее пистолета.
Listen to native speakers Ручка, тем болие авторучка just sound weird to native speakers unless you want to cater to someone who is not native speaker and learning but then it defeats the whole point.

kwatts, just to let you know that sometimes sayings are not to be taken as literally as you would like --
non sequitor....
hmm, or maybe not. I was just reminded of a T-shirt that I bought from somebody in the FBI when I was working in the federal building in SF. You know the KGB's motto is Щит и меч (The shield and sword). Well the FBI had made up one with the same logo and motto, slightly modified -- Булщит и меч .
Anyway, whoever first wrote "the pen is mightier than the sword" most certainly had in mind a goose or turkey quill, not one of these newfangled write-anywhere-in-outer-space-ball-point pens.
When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 Billion to develop a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300C.Originally Posted by chaika
