    Микрорайоны Москвы

    Москва теперь строится целыми микрорайонамы, а эти микрорайоны порой стоят целого города.
    However I can in general translate it, I'm not thoroughly satisfied with it: "Moscow is now built as independent / complete microdistricts, and these microdistricts (стóить?) sometimes are as (equivalent to) a complete town".
    I have two doubts: a) My translation of Tв. п. in целыми микрорайонамы is OK? ; b) Why Ро. п. in целого города?
    Thank you.

    There are two interpretations of the word «целый» in this sentence. Your variant is good too, but I think the word “whole” is better here (like “a whole number of questions”).

    Usually the verb «стоить» is used with object in genitive.
    1) Это стоит [чего?] больших денег.
    2) Твоя жизнь стоила мне [чего?] левой почки (donor say to a patient).
    3) Они стоят [кого?] друг друга. In this context the «стоить» means “be worthy of”, you may use «достойны» instead of «стоят» here.

    «Они стоят целого города» means here: «Они почти как целый город», «Они сравнимы с целым городом», «Они достойны названия "город"» etc. In a figurative sense the “price” of these microdistricts is a value/ importance.

    No. Should be "микрорайонами".
    In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

    Thank you. As for the meanings of "stoyt" (I am not at home and the computer is not set for cyrillic characters) your explanation is far better than this in my dictionary. The ending of Instrumental case in ы and not in и is my fault. I tear my clothes and cover my hair with ashes just now. Thanks.

    That's true if the verb is used figuratively. When we say about a real cost expressed in money we use accusative.

    Обед стоит пять золотых - The dinner costs five gold coins
    Обед стоит пяти золотых - The dinner is worth five gold coins

    "Это стоит больших денег" is an exception. It can refer both to great importance of a thing or to it's high price.
    Налево пойдёшь - коня потеряешь, направо пойдёшь - сам голову сложишь.

    Mmm… However, in this sentence «золотой» is in (somebody, please, help me: how would it, I mean “is in”, be in correct English?) genitive form. Only first four numbers are exceptions:
    -- Обед стоит один рубль/доллар (singular, accusative);
    -- Обед стоит два/три/четыре рубля/доллара (singular!!!, genitive);
    And then always plural and genitive…
    -- Обед стоит пять рублей (plural, genitive)
    -- Обед стоит шесть рублей
    -- Обед стоит десять/одиннадцать/двенадцать рублей etc.
