Thread: you like fishsticks?

Now i have to ask, how did the russians translate the fishsticks play on words in season 5, episode 13?
the whole episode was based around it (you can watch it here - http://www.southparkstudios.com/episodes/220762 )
the translation would somehow have to have something about gay fish in it as the main joke of the episode was Kanye West not understanding a joke about why liking fishsticks made him a gay fish

Russians, please enlighten me

Aside of grammar, the question was how it was translated, not how one would do it So, if you don't happen have this episode on you computer the solution is -
1. download 13.05 episode from a torrent of you choice. (140 megabytes)
2. fast forward to the certain time.
3. understand it.
4 - profit!

Maybe it’s that the joke is not worth giving it the shotarusskie? It’s so straightforward and plain stupid I wouldn’t want to be that poor cartoon interpreter confronted with the task of having to do the translation retaining the reach creamery word play of the original. The squirrel swimming on his back keeping his nuts dry and the Latino comedian found dead with fish dicks stuffed down his open neckhole are the only funny characters there. Ever see a squirrel swimming?
Anyways, if ever the episode was aired in Russian it can’t be otherwise than that it lost all its meaning due to inadequate translation and I bet the audience couldn’t make head or tale of what the humor was about as has been the case with every Simpsons or Futurama episode that I recklessly watched in Russian. Speaking of which, there’s a fishy theme and a funny one at that in “A Fish named Selma “episode of The Simpsons:

Hibbert: Troy McClure? I thought he disappeared after that scandal at
the aquarium.
Louie: Hey, I thought you said Troy McClure was dead.
Tony: No, what I said was: "He sleeps with the fishes". You see...

Okay! Yes there is something else you see, because the joke wasn't even about fish sticks or any sexual organs of any other animals that may be made to sound like a food. So that is why a joke about "crab-sticks" is way beside the point.

The joke here was that Kanye west is so stupid that he can't understand even the simplest of puns. The fact that no one is making a joke about him doesn't seem to matter because he doesn't understand the joke anyways.

Also, the fact that Cartman's ego is so big he can't even see when he steals others peoples work is also a play on Kanye west only loving himself, not giving people credit, not letting other people talk at award shows etc.

So, you can't just take any animal and put sticks after it and have it be funny. Fish-sticks, fish-dicks isn't even funny. It wasn't even the joke. It was just the set-up to the punchline. The punchline which is Kanye west. He is the real joke. At least in this episode.

Okay, it maybe does. But you’d have had to know first of those guys’ oversized egos and that there really is a Kanye West person notoriously known for his stupidity who’d been long waiting for what was coming to him or simply be a fan of the series which I haven’t somehow got a chance to become one so far. Are there many of those who are btw?
And yes, the big ego related dragon slaughtering scene was funny too.

Well thats what I was trying to say at least. Even if 100% of the jokes don't translate into Russian, at least Russians still find it funny.

And you're right, you do have to know a fair bit about what is going on in the world to understand a lot of South Park's humor. There are plenty of Americans who watch it and think its stupid just because they don't get that its not just about poop jokes and Kenny dying.

Family guy on the other hand, I have no idea how the hell you would make that funny in Russian. I think its even harder to understand than South Park.

Actually it's season 13, episode 5 You can get it here http://rutor.org/download/14814 by bittorrent. The word защеканец doesn't exist in Russian as "behindcheeker" doesn't exist in English.
