translation struggles

Well, it's been many months since I've bothered you all with my questions, so to make up for it here are a bunch of questions I would be very grateful for help on:

1.) "углубиться в асоциальную атмосферу жизни"

I don't understand the word асоциальный here, and don't see it in my dictionary.

2.) "стоять на учете"

This is said of a pupil, I haven't the slightest idea what it means.

3.) "обеспечение формирования у детей и молодежи ценностей здорового способа жизни слова отказа от «пробы» мотивов отказа от «спробы» наркотиков"

I'm having trouble understanding the "пробы" and "спробы" part.

4.) "Согласно Концепции профилактики злоупотребления психоактивных веществ в образовательной среде в качестве объектов профилактики определяют следующие возрастные группы: [...]"

I get lost somewhere in the middle of this sentence. Are the age groups the subject of the verb "определять"???

Верно. Причем в нашем случае, вероятнее всего, "стоять на учете у нарколога" или, может быть, "стоять на учете в милиции".

#3 is a piece of nonsence. Most likely someone tried to edit this sentence, and it contains parts of both old and new version.
#4 is not grammatically correct.

Why are you try to read text like this not even written in good Russian? It won't help you to learn the language.

стоять/состоять на учёте - to be registered (and often observed) as a druggie, (former) criminal etc.

I agree it's a piece of crap, but it is basically correct. I would only change it slightly to make it absolutely correct :)

My best attempt at editing #3 is

3.) обеспечение формирования у детей и молодежи ценностей здорового способа жизни, слова отказа от пробы наркотиков, мотивов отказа от пробы наркотиков

проба наркотиков is trying narcotics, first-time use of narcotics

#4) There is no subject in this sentence (this always confuses the English-speaking people)

определяют = [they] define (the following age groups according to blah-blah) or the following age groups are defined.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your help! This document was translated rather hastily for me from Ukrainian to Russian, so that's why it's such a mess. It's a report for UNICEF from a Ukrainian NGO I'm volunteering with, and they need to have it in English. It would be a hard enough job for me to translate it from good Russian at my level (it's very long), but this is really a challenge. In any case I feel better that I was having trouble with those sentences now that I hear they're troubled sentences to begin with. But all your replies were really helpful, thanks so much!! (I have a feeling there will be more questions to come...)

I have some more questions...

1.) How can I translate the word "сопровождение" in
"отдел профилактического сопровождения детей и подростков"
The dictionary says accompaniment, but a department of prophylactic accompaniment doesn’t make sense.

2.) What does "наработка" mean? The context is:
"…более опытные стали активно делиться своим опытом, творческими наработками и методическими находками"

3.) What would be a decent translation of the word "разрешительный" in this sentence:
"В пределах проекта были проведены такие разрешительные мероприятия: …"

4.) Could someone translate this sentence into English for me? I feel like I should understand it, but there’s something I’m missing…
"Никто из участников не знает которой есть частица ВИЧ-инфекцированных среди детей кризисных категорий."

5.) Does anyone have a better idea than I do what is meant here by the "ровный - ровному" principle?
"В пределах проекта учебы прошли 60 педагогов, социальных работников, психологов и волонтеров, которые работают по принципу “ровный, - ровному".

It is basically a prevention department. Сопровождение here means observation or watching...

Наработка is some acquired practical experience, usually something you can't learn from books... Basically, most of the words in the sentence can be safely omitted :) They started sharing experience. That's it.

This sentence is gramatically not correct. I think it was supposed to be
"Никто из участников не знает какая часть среди детей кризисных категорий инфицирована ВИЧ"

It is a typo. Probably should be равный равному meaning from an equal (partner) to an equal (partner), i.e. fair exchange of knowledge/experience...

ровный-ровному: this is probably a literal translation from Ukranian, and I guess it means peer-to-peer.'

"разрешительное мероприятие" - doesn't make any sense in Russian, I guess it is a mistranslation from Ukranian as well.

There are a few types of them:
организационно-разрешительное мероприятие
контрольно-разрешительное мероприятие
согласовательно-разрешительное мероприятие

разрешительное means the final goal of the project - to approve something.

For example, if you want to obtain a licence as a right to do something, you may need to pass through a chain of expertises, examinations, agreements, approvements end so on. All these are called "approval measures" or "approval arrangements" or "разрешительные мероприятия".

Umm, I disagree with this point. Hаработка is not the same as experience, it is something that has been implemented and it works. One can have vast experience with a subject yet to no practical outcome. A toolbox or implementation comes to mind. Methodology development is also not the same as experience.

Thanks again, it's all very helpful. This won't be perfect translation, but what can they expect when they give me an imperfect original. I finished the 25-page report and told them I can't translate all 37 pages of appendices in time :D Thanks again for the help, this is such a cool site.

Тиффани, вы видите разницу между "злоупотребление психоактивных веществ" и "злоупотребление психоактивными веществами"?

Откройте сами свою ссылочку и посмотрите - там как раз всё правильно: "психоактивными веществами". Творительный падеж.
