    Thank you so much!!!

Very interesting to see how the word order moves around depending on the context. Tempus is a bit different in Russian too; just a different approach compared with Western European langauges.
It's slowly beginning to sink in with me!

"Remont" is such a funky all-purpose word - I already knew it so I'll use it for redecoration in this sentence.

There are dozens of synonyms and shades of meaning, but the main are:

    1) to plan or to intend to do something (=to be going to)
Я не собираюсь это обсуждать = I'm not going to discuss it

    2) to gather together, to assemble in one place, etc.
Ребята, давайте соберемся сегодня вечером в кафе = Guys, let's meet tonight at a cafe

    3) to prepare for departure, to pack one's things
Ты ещё не собрался? Нам уже пора выходить = Aren't you ready yet? It's time for us to go

Note that depending on the context you can use different English verbs to express the idea.

Hehe, touché! Seriously... I have a bit of a phobia about it, to be honest. I practically got thrown out of the Russian class in school because I didn't keep up. That was the culmination of a pretty awkward situation where the teacher complained of everything from pronounciation to grammar and hand-writing. It was a really bad and humiliating experience! In fact, my otherwise good secondary school leaving record has a mark that Russian is 1 (of 5, this is a fail..), and "incomcomplete". Luckily it was possible to count this grade out of the average though, or I would have been disqualified for university.

Apart from that, It's just so discouraging to write a simple sentence and see that it's absolutely packed with mistakes.

I will start using the language learning sites, like LiveMocca etc.
That way I will be forced to write submissions and record things to progress the course...

When I do that, I will invite everyone here to "friend" me....

We have a "long weekend" here in London, because of the "Spring bank holiday" on Monday (England's substitute for 1 May). The weather is terrible (raining non-stop...). I'm taking it easy and will study some Russian.
    More to come.

Ну, по смыслу, здесь делаем ремонт подходит только с натяжкой.
Бум щитать редекорацию как меняем интерьер гоин беттер.

I have a bit of a phobia about it
Hey Take it easy. Just have fun. I feel no trouble to write like "Hello, is there much people liking a Russian language?"
They just correct me and that's all. And I don't take it as something to be shy of. I like talking to people in my clumsy English and appreciate them so much to correct me. I take them as teacher-friends, not as examiners.

I'm sure in a month after you start writing in russian and keep doing it constantly, you'll pick up all the clues for your main mistakes and then you will get the feeling... I can't compare that to anything else.
You will feel like: Wow! I can't believe, I've made it. That's fantastic. Finally I have another reason to respect myself, and those my "avoid-writing-in-russian" thoughts were just stupid and hillarious ...
    etc.

    LiveMocca
Livemocha btw. A good site. Compared to RosettaStone it's waaaay better and for free.
But has very awkward live-chat instruments. ICQ is the best.
And there are only a few people there making a really helpful support. The comments to the exersizes are mostly like "Yeah, That's great. You speak like a real russian!!!" etc. And all this at the time when the exersize's made really bad. I dunno why that happens, but it's the way it is.

P.S. I'll tell you something. When I decided to learn English (that was the last november-december), I chose an e-mail correspondence as a way of communication because "I have time to re-read all that one thousand times and correct that, trying to make it sounding more-or-less native." But later I refused that way because I found some people who learned russian as well. But we had to talk over ICQ. That was scary for me like hell. I've made a thousand mistakes. (Maybe two ) Now I can't imagine how to learn Russian over the forums like this only, or over books, without live talking. These are very helpful and I can ask something when noone of those my American friends are on (though I can't remember myself asking something here ), but: when anyone of them is on, *yahoo*, I immerse into the non-stop talk with them and, as you can see, I speak English not bad for a half-year learner. Wish you the same, except in Russian...

We all keep on waiting for you to make an attempt....
    Good luck.

    Re: Sentences for grammar!

Just one question. Ok I entered all these phrases into my Anki flashcard deck. Check Anki at http://ichi2.net/anki/
(My deck's got a 2000 card backlog though, after I entered all the phrases from Pimsleur... )

However. one of the sentences came up almost immediately!

Осенью она запишется на курсы русского языка.
I didn't know the word "запишется" and none of the electronic dictionaries seems to know it at all.. But "Babylon" suggested "записываться" meaning; "check in; enrol, register; enter for". Is that it?

"Sign up for..." would be closer, I believe.

    Re: Sentences for grammar!

Thanks for the super inspiration Eugene. Really..

And if you learnt English that fast, then you really are very talented.. It took me much longer than that.

(Didn't you study English in school though...? How come you have to take a course?)

I am super self-conscious with languages... I only started speaking English because I had no choice...

Actually I am considering a trip through Russia this summer; just a brief one, partly just to practice the language. I am attending a wedding in Northern Sweden. After that's over, there is an opportunity to visit Russia. Apparently there is a coach (long distance bus) from the town town of Kiruna where the wedding is, to Murmansk. I thought I'd jump on the bus and check out Murmansk and then use local transport (train, bus) to visit some of the sights on the Kola peninsula and in Karelia, then fly back to the UK from St Petersburg. However, I have heard that transportation is not great in that area, so if it's not possible to get around, then I can't do it. Another interesting possibility would be to take the ferry to Kaliningrad and check that out, then fly back to the UK from Vilnius.

    Re: Sentences for grammar!

Didn't you study English in school though...?
Nope. I learned German in school, and then "switched" to English at the University.
But the only thing I got from there is a huge vocab. I've learned many words (I really can't say if I've learned them at the University or it was somewhere else at -- I constantly pick up new words from songs, operation manuals etc.) but I couldn't link them together into sentences (which is the most important part of the process) and I couldn't pronounce them properly. (I don't consider those foolish school-level tries as a real English-speaking).
    Now I can.
