Can you give me the translation for the following words? I'm trying to name 3 Amur Tiger cubs at Marwell Zoo! Thank you for your help.

PRECIOUS

HOPE

TREASURE

RARITY

BIG CAT

REGAL

Well , if you want precise translation (as in dictionary) here it is -

PRECIOUS - драгоценный

HOPE - надежда

TREASURE - сокровище

RARITY - oops, sorry I translated 'parity' Редкость

BIG CAT - большая кошка\ большой кот

REGAL - королевский

RARITY - раритет

REGAL - I think царский or just царь is better

That what I meant saying 'as in dictionary' . Then REGAL is adjective only, but if we translate those words with tigers in mind then it would be different. - depends on the author what she wants.

Call one of them Мурзик. Or Вася. Or Муся, if it is a girl.
BTW, I wonder, what are the most common names for cats in English?

Helen probably needs transcriptions also. Here's an approximate way to pronounce each of those words (I used ' to indicate which syllable is stressed):

PRECIOUS - драгоценный - drago'tzenniy

HOPE - надежда - nad'yezhda ('zh' is like the 's' in 'pleasure')

TREASURE - сокровище - sa'krovishe (not too sure about this one)

RARITY - Редкость - 'redkost (try to make the 'e' sound more like 'air' than 'red')

BIG CAT - большая кошка/ большой кот - bal'shaya 'koshka / bal'shoy kot

REGAL - королевский - karal'yevskiy

царский - 'tzarskiy (like the Russian 'Tzar/Czar/Csar')

Мурзик - Murzik (the 'r' is a little rolled, the 'u' is similar to put, not sure about the stress)

Вася - 'Vasya (make it an s like 'slip', not like 'phase')

Муся - Musya - sort of combine the two above I think
