    "Soulless"

I am doing a sort of art project and was wondering what the best Russian translation for the word "soulless" would be.

    Any thoughts?

Without a soul - Без души

and from that you can make the adjective:

    бездушный

However I think it corresponds more to the English "heartless", as Soulless is very strong in English.

    My dictionary says:

    soulless
    (прил.)
    1) бездушный, жестокий, бессердечный; лишенный благородства ( о человеке )
    2) неинтересный, нудный, пресный, скучный (I'd add "без огонька")

a soulless attempt — вялая попытка

Syn: dull 1., insipid , uninteresting

depending on the context, you could use: мёртвый

If you describe the situation (is it a picture, a story, about a person, a place, etc.) we could find a more accurate word for you.

A friend is doing a painting of a man and he wanted him to have a tattoo that said "soulless" in Russian.

The sense of the word is supposed to mean just that: "having no soul." However, the man is not supposed to be dead.

I see,I think Бездушный would work best.

For the doubters, this is what Толковый словарь Даля says:

БЕЗДУШНЫЙ , | Толковый словарь Даля
    - в тесном смысле: не одаренный человеческою душою; (not gifted with a human soul)

    - лишившийся души, мертвый, умерший или убитый; (deprived a soul)

    - *поступающий так, будто бы в нем не было человеческой души, бесчувственный к страданиям ближних, черствый, холодный, самотный, себялюбивый. (acting as if he didn't have a human soul)
