I am reading a russian book, and there are some words I can not find in the dictionary... can someone help me with these sentences?

смердящих from verb смердеть - to stink
висельник - hanged man

бряцая - from брацать - clanking, jingling

подсобка - a storage room

Поволжье - Volga region

прикид - from what I can guess it means something like "clothing" or "outfit."

All of the words you asked about except прикид could be found in ABBBY Lingvo 9.0.

прикиды are like "cool" or "fashionable" clothes, if i remember correctly.

I'd like to add that although a mass starvation in Volga river region is a historical fact ( http://www.icrc.org/web/rus/siterus0.ns ... usto_print ) but in your context it is just an ironic remark to someones who just didn't eat anything recently ( several hours ).

Never liked this "irony". But it affects me personally because of my great-grandparent experience who lived (and died) there.

Yeah, my book might not be the most sensetive of all Russian books, but the naughty local Russian book-salesmen said it would be a simple book to read. Bastard.
