Please Help! Small Change
I have to translate the article from Psychologies, namely, Small Change
Could you help me with 3d topic, please?
3. Walk tall
‘Most people don’t walk correctly and the result is that, with every step, our body is moving in incorrect alignment,’ says Sammy Margo, physiotherapist and spokesperson for the Chartered Society Of Physiotherapy. ‘In the short term this can lead to pain, and in the long term to excess wear and tear on the joints, which is linked to osteoarthritis.’
To correct your walk, first focus on the way your foot strikes the ground. ‘The heel should strike the ground first then you roll up through your midfoot and off your toe,’ says Margo. Pay attention to your stride length, too. Most of us take strides that are too short as we hurry. Covering one paving slab per step is a good stride guide, ‘and walk tall as if someone is pulling you up by the hair, elongating your whole body’.
My translation is following:
I don't understand what is paving slab? In a dictionary I've found the meaning плита дорожного покрытия, yet, how can I reproduce it in Russian?
And the second question... When you see in the article the title of the book in English but it doesn't exist in Russian//Should I translate it or should I leave it in original language?
Thanks for help.

В ближайшей перспективе это может привести к боли, а затем и к износу суставов, что может стать причиной остеоартроза.

Trying to translate something without understanding is almost impossible. Can you explain its meaning in English? "Тротуарная плитка" could fit if its size didn't vary from 10 to 50 cm. (*ray of diarrhea on all fans of 'visual' metrics for better understanding*)

Leave as is.

Re: Please Help! Small Change
I don't see how you could translate "paving slab" into Russian - well let's see, as you walk along the sidewalk, there are lines separating different blocks of concrete, so I guess these blocks can be named as "paving slabs" - but depending on what city you are in the average size will vary considerably, if they even have paved sidewalks :-)
Maybe you should just replace it with an arbitrary figure, say 1 metre :-)

тротуарная плитка
vox05 has already mentioned that. I don't see any problem here.

The problem is that there's no such thing as "standard" paving slab in Russia
Often the pavement is just a solid asphalt area without any slabs. When there ARE decorative slabs they differ significantly in size and form, and can be as small as half of your foot. The advice "covering one paving slab per step is a good stride guide" is absolutely usless to a Russian speaker.
How are you supposed to use it on this pavement?

I agree with John_Douglas that some explanation is needed here, whether this is a length in cm, given in brackets, or a comparison with a length of some common object.

Ну-у, я думала, раз уж на русский переводить, то сразу с локализацией. :) А дословный перевод вызывает в мыслях нелепый образ человека, который то ли мелко семенит, то ли шагает как Гулливер. Че-то с этим надо делать. Конечный пользователь текста (я то есть) недоумевает. )))

Или псевдобезграмотности. ;) Может, это был тонкий стилистический ход.
Re: Please Help! Small Change
На дюже большую грамотность не претендую, но чего-то такое, про что gRomoZeka говорит.

Под "псевдограмотностью" я имел в виду то, что в безграмотном слове "ихний" в родительном падеже Алекс "грамотно" написал "г" а не "в". :) Поэтому и предложил более прикольный на мой взгяд вариант псевдобезграмотности.
Re: Please Help! Small Change
Дело в том, что по бесправилам русского языка "ихнего" пишется именно так. :D :instruct:

И где это зафиксировано? В словаре под редакцией почтальона Печкина что ли? :)
