What would this translate to in English, and what would be the proper context where it could be used? I know it's something to do with the native land...

Sounds like a slogan. It probably can be used in the context of any patriotic event/holiday.

We don't use the word motherland in English to describe our own countries. We only use it when talking about how other people describe their countries.
