    Mystery E-Mail

An e-friend of mine got this in his email, and wasn't even certain what language it was. It looked to me like it was possibly Russian, and at the least of Slavic decent. Anyone know what it is?

Well it is definitely not Russian. I couldn't make out a single word, it looks more like a middle-eastern language than a slavic one to me...

Yeah... I saw "kopek" which made me think of Russia/Ukraine, but the more I read it, the less it "sounds" Russian. Hmmm...

I think I found the language:

    TURKIC!

Haha... the place where this was first posted said it wasn't Turkik because there were no umlauts

I think I'll wait for a second opinion before passing judgement --unless, of course, Turkik is a language you actually speak.

I don't speak it, but I did a quick google search on some of the words in the text:

yaptim for example gave me 2 million almost all turkish hits
    zamanlar 3 million turkish hits
    anneme 500k turkish hits...

Google seems to be pretty sure that it's Turkish. If you're really stuck for a translator, I can probably get a friend to give you a summary.

Turkic is not a language. Turkic languages are a group, comprising of Turkish to Tatar, Kazakh to Uzbek.

Your knowledge of languages is shockingly bad.

The readiness with which you antagonize others is also shocking. I would have absolutely no objection to correcting my mistake; in fact I would welcome it. Antagonizing me, however, is uncalled for in this sort of situation.

Well if you are such an intellect why didn't you just stick a few word combinations into google to get your answer.

And don't criticise the level of "intellectual discourse" on these forums. I may be a rude teenager, but at least I'm right most of the time. Come back and talk about MR's level of "intellectual discourse" after you've post something that isn't completely wrong.

I wasn't refering to that. You were basically right, just just the name a bit confuddled.

This is the guy who said Tatar is closely related to Russian and Polish.

I thought they may be, but I was clearly mistaken. I don't mind being corrected on matters of language (I in fact welcome it), as this is, after all, a set of forums devoted to that purpose.

Personal attacks, however, are always uncalled for. You clearly have a strong grasp on a number of Eastern European languages, and the aid you give to others is invaluable. Despite this, I am certain I am not the only person who is already tired of your predilection to trolling.

What ever happened to the Master Russian that i used to know ...when personal attacks were par for the course? ........Does anyone else think that it has become rather tame around here lately?
