    Maybe?

    How do you say "maybe" in Russian.

    My Russian teacher says "может быть." Now I can relate to this because it is like the French "peut-etre" literally meaning "can to be". I strongly think this is it because it worked its way into the Russian language during Peter the Great's western European obsession.

    However...

    In one of the forum posts, I saw a post saying maybe could be translated as "миша". A shortened version, perhaps?

    Your teacher is correct.

    You can also say "возможно"
