mat phrases?

привет,
is it ok to ask about mat? Please PM me if it's not allowed. I got these from a book and I'd like to know their meaning.

чмо - человек морально опущенный (обязанный, отсталый и т.д.)

точно не поручусь, но эта аббревиатура пришла из мест "не столь отдалённых", то бишь с зоны.

Точного эквивалента в английском, к сожалению, подобрать не могу, разве что
depraved degenerate.

My dictionary gives me "foul language, obscene language, obscenities, profanities, four-letter words" as definition for мат; "curse, swear words" it defines as "ругательство". That's what i meant (I'm not an expert in English swear words though :) )
