    This makes no sense!

    Не то тебя вынесёт наружу не через тот камин.

    It refers to Harry Potter getting out of the magical transporting fireplace once he has arrived at his destination.
    I just cannot put those words in a order that makes sense in English and this action is not included in the English version of the story.
    thnx

    Is it a full sentence? Or a part of one?

    "Otherwise you will be not blown outside through that chimney". In the sense of "you will be blown outside, but not though that one chimney (maybe pointing at it), but... <whatever, other chimney, door,..>

    But if you swap 2 words - "через" и "не", the meaning changes:
    "Otherwise you will be blown outside through the 'wrong' chimney", 'wrong' being 'not the (right) one' literatelly.

    It is a whole sentence. "Стой смирно и ничего не бойся. Выходи, когда увидишь братьев. Не то тебя вынесёт наружу не через тот камин."

    From the context the meaning should be: "If not you will come out of the wrong fireplace."

    Yes, but there is kind of a problem, then.

    If looked at carefully

    "не через тот камин"
    would be "through not that one fireplace (, but another, or a door or something else)"

    better would be IMHO
    "через не тот камин"

    "through the wrong one", literately "through not the one", "the one" meaning "the right one".

    Russain phrase seems ok to me. And it means exactly what you thought.

    не через тот камин = не через тот камин, (который надо) = not through the chimney you need/the 'right' chimney (literally)

    A literal translation of the translation:
    "Or else you will be thrown out of not the right (of the wrong) fireplace."

    An original:
    "Or you might well fall out of the wrong fireplace".

    Same page: "Стали давать о себе знать съеденные бутерброды."

    What this should mean is: "The sandwiches he had eaten were making him sick". (because he was whirling)

    Please explain, literally it is not very sensible with the word "знать" included.

    Lingvo:
    давать о себе знать
    to let smb. hear from oneself, to send news ( сообщать о себе) ;
    to make one's presence known ( обнаруживать свое присутствие) ;
    to make itself felt, to have its effect on smb. ( проявляться)

    Вообще это предложение без контекста сложно однозначно интерпретировать. Вовсе не обязаельно, что он от них стал плохо себя чувствовать, может наоборот, он насытился или еще что-нибудь. Хотя все-же я соглашусь, что в данном случае имеется сильная тенденция к интерпретации связаннной с болезнью.
