    if this was in russian ?

    I was watching the Olympics and thought I overheard some
    chat between athletes . One of the men had just completed
    his routine(in gymnastics), and another man said to him ....
    (at least this is what I heard)
    " Tishee nye bay liobesh " and my best translation was
    Ti esli nye bey liobesh or (roughly spelled,sorry)
    Ты если не в любещ you if not in love

    Would this make any sense, as it appeared to me that
    the one man said,'you if not in love' as though the first
    man might get a good score if the judges were not
    still thinking of the athlete before him.

    Help! and thanks for any replies .
    I am about 3 months of self-taught russian language.

    Tishee nye bay liobesh

    Tishee = тише
    nye = не
    bay = ??
    liobesh = любишь

    However, I don't know how to put it all together. As it is, the sentense doesn't make sense.

    This is only a very bad guess, but perhaps "bay-liobesh" here is "балл+(unknown ending)"? You know, as in points in sports? Is there some verb derived from this that means "to score points?" As for "Tishee nye", maybe "ты ещё не"?

    No, as far as I know there's no such verb, there's a verb баллотироваться which means to run for (in the sense to be a candidate) but I doubt that this is the case.

    I hope indra is incorrect, here. LOL .
    Unless they could have been humor .

    Okay, I had some time to look around, and silly me.
    It could easily have been :

    ты если не в ловить
    ты ___ не ___ ловить

    So far,my studies are not up to sentence structure.
    And I should have said that the television volume
    was set low when I 'heard' the comment .

    thanks again !

    Maybe that was "Ты еще на балл выше".
