What would be a good translation for "How far was the hike?" These seem reasonable, but is there a better translation or is one of these better than the other?
Как далеко был поход?
Сколько далеко был поход?
Сколько километров был поход?

Also what is the best way of phrasing "Did you hike back in the dark?"
I believe that Вы вернулись в темноте? literally means "Did you return in the dark?"

Google suggested "Вы походу назад в темноте?" for "Did you hike back in the dark?" but what is the verb (implied or otherwise)?

For "Did you do the hike back in the dark?" Google suggests "Разве вы делаете поход назад в темноте?"

Two simple questions (How far was the hike? and Did you hike back in the dark?), but so many possible ways to translate them.

Did you hike back in the dark? - Вы возвращались в темноте?

Сколько далеко был поход?

This one, only after a small correction
Насколько далёким был поход?

Russian would most likely say just: "Далеко были?" , "Докуда дошли?".
Something like these.
