Hello!
How would you say "self-preservation" in Russian? I really appreciate your help.
It's "самосохранение" as my dictionary said :)
Can you also help me with pronunciation? Thank you!
samasakhranyeniye.
The last syllable is stressed. ;)
Are you sure because my dictionary says самосохранение.Quote:

well since ие On the end of words is almost never (or maybe never) stressed i think rostova meant that the E самосохранение was stressed becaue he assumed you people were smart enough to figure that out.
Sorry, never meant to mislead you... Though I winked at ya! Like this: ;) You finally figured that out, as Dogboy pin-pointed.
Maybe I was carried away transliterating that, so I began splitting the word in syllables, and the last one when said like that is sure stressed. Agagin, no lie in your dictionary. ;) I'm winking again.
быти
I'll quote myself when i said...

I was certain that there had to be at least one exception as there almost always is in russian. Though Самоё doesnt end in ие, does it?
I haven't heard this word before. Did you mean СамоЕ?Quote:
Самоё
We have самое and самоё.Quote:

BTW, бытие is the only right variant. No yo is possible.
Where did you pick this up? I never use самоё. Can you give me several examples of самоё?Quote:

"Самоё себя" is a favourite phrase of my lecturer of philosophy. For example "На протяжении всей истории цивилизации человек пытался познать самоё себя." I think she feel herself very clever when she says it.
And in some fairy tales you can see the phrase "житьё-бытьё"
I practically never use this form of the word. You can say самого себя which will be acceptable 100%. The example is well illustrated by Rostova.Quote:
