Thread: Help with some constructions

Just writing a midterm composition, and i was struggling with a few constructions. So, I thought i'd see if anybody has a good way to put the following in Russian:

To come out ahead
A victim of her own selfishness
One use of realism

I wasn't able to understand points 1 and 3 May be, if you gave the examples...

IMO "come out ahead" does not have an equivalent, (many idioms don't), and should be translated on case-by-case basis. Pls provide the whole sentence

1: оказаться первым
2: жертва (своего) собственного эгоизма (from stranger )
3: одно употребление реализма

The English doesn't either without context.

My dic says that "come out ahead" means "сводить концы с концами".

Okay, context for come out ahead:

"However, at the end of the story he came out ahead."

For one use of realism:

"One use of realism can be found in the character's archetypes."

Could be depending on the story. Typically it means to succeed, to make profit.

Yes, I agree.

However, at the end of the story he came out ahead. - Однако, к концу рассказа он вышел победителем.
